“Not Shaken”

Psalm 24 holds a special place in my heart and while it’s been a long time since, this would be the second time I was inspired to paint after these words.

3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. – Psalm 24: 3-6

When I read the words from Psalm 24:3-6, I’m moved by David’s description of someone who ascends to the hill of the Lord and stands in his holy place. That person has a pure heart. That person is immovable, unwavering, unbreakable, and never deceived. That person is not shaken. “He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.” I couldn’t help but feel like these paintings not only reflect the Word God placed in my heart for worship, but they also bear witness to the fast God called on the young adults at Living Hope to do. While at times a fast can feel religious and legalistic, I believe God has given each one of us grace and freedom to seek after his heart through prayer and worship. So, who are they who can ascend the hill of the Lord or stand in his holy place? Who are they who have clean hands and a pure heart, who do not life up their souls to what is false and do not swear deceitfully? Who are they who will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation? “the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.” These paintings are about seeking the face of God, and in seeking him we are Not Shaken neither in the Past (nor) / Future. – Amy Pak (ihearttheword.org)
