This message encouraged and challenged me greatly. God has not called us to abandon our family or dreams in order to serve in the church. But, he has also not called us to abandon the church in pursuit of bettering our families and fulfilling our dreams. God has all in mind. Abandoning one areas actually causes you to get knocked off track on the others as well. God desires to give us revelation for our family, the church, and the world. His revelation for these areas is not episodic, but generational.
Great synopsis! In golf, we talk about compounding errors. This is what we tend to do . . . if I make the error of overcommitting to the church and undercommitting to my family, I will be tempted to react by overcommitting to my family and undercommitting to the church. This doesn’t fix the problem, it exchanges one error for another. Only as we seek to discern the proper balance between church, family, and vocation will we discover what it means to be truly faithful to God’s calling upon our lives.
One thing I, as a Christian, can not stand is this way of teaching. It’s too Baptist like. It seems so scripted and fake. I’m just waiting for him to put his hand on some afflicted person and say “BE GONE!.”
